A platform uniting subscription, financing, and maintenance for delivery riders — an investment built on trust forged at a major conglomerate
AXE Ventures (CEO Taehoon Kang), an early-stage technology investor, announced on July 1 that it has invested KRW 500 million in Cycloid, the operator of Badream, an electric-motorcycle subscription platform.
Cycloid is a mobility platform company that runs Badream, an electric-motorcycle subscription service for delivery riders. The platform digitalizes the entire vehicle journey for riders — subscriptions, new-vehicle purchases, automated subsidy applications, financing, vehicle management, and maintenance — in a single service. The company has recently been accelerating electric-motorcycle adoption programs in cooperation with manufacturers and financial institutions, and is pursuing new eco-friendly mobility businesses together with local governments and private-sector partners.
AXE Ventures is an AI-native startup accelerator specializing in investing in and nurturing early-stage technology companies. Going beyond document screening, the firm verifies portfolio companies' technology and operations in the field before investing, and supports growth from the seed stage onward through KPI monitoring and customer and partnership introductions.
AXE Ventures assessed Cycloid not as a mere supplier of electric motorcycles but as a platform that connects financing, subscriptions, data, and maintenance into one. The firm rated highly Cycloid's operational capability to manage its delinquency rate through its own credit-management system built on vehicle telematics data, and judged the company to be at the starting point of an expansion in which pilots with Woowa Youths, an affiliate of Baemin operator Woowa Brothers, local-government subsidy programs, and asset-financing partnerships with financial institutions interlock. Notably, during the review AXE Ventures — unlike other investors — led the joint development of a rental-capital strategy from a capital-efficiency perspective.
The investment was grounded in trust built over many years. Cycloid CEO Junil Kwon and an early limited partner of AXE Ventures worked together on the large-scale 2021 investment and value-up project involving HD Hyundai Marine Solution and global private equity firm KKR. That relationship opened the conversation with AXE Ventures after Kwon founded the company, and multi-angle field reviews ultimately led to this investment.
"Cycloid is a team that goes beyond supplying vehicles to solve riders' financing and operational problems with data," a spokesperson for AXE Ventures said. "We expect the company to demonstrate strong scalability in the delivery-mobility market."
"It is all the more meaningful to be backed by an investor we have long worked with and whose working style and philosophy resonate with ours," a spokesperson for Cycloid said. "With this investment, we will further advance our electric-motorcycle subscription service and expand the eco-friendly mobility ecosystem together with manufacturers, financial institutions, and local governments."
Cycloid plans to expand into AI-driven operations automation and a mobility-data platform.
